Margaret's own artwork focuses on the figure and landscape. Drawing in pencil, conte, charcoal and pastel, Margaret believes in a strong foundation in the basics. Margaret offers drawing classes from beginner to advanced, specializing in figure drawing. Margaret offers courses in pastel, many are suitable for intermediate to advanced students, as well as ongoing open studios.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Cancellation within 14 days of the start of the class will cost the student a $50.00 processing fee. For any cancellation within 7 days, there will be no refund.

Introduction to Pastel-Landscape @ Haliburton school of fine art

With an overview of materials and the creation of a sample book of pastel techniques, you will discover how versatile and forgiving the medium of pastel really is. Colour theory, plein air, studio work, and composition as it specifically applies to landscape, will be studied and applied. Many examples will be shown and discussed in order to reinforce methods and techniques. Instruction will provide a strong foundation in pastel application, and enable you to work independently on site, or in the studio. Through exposure to many pastel works, you will also gain an understanding of how to analyze techniques used.

2 day Introduction to Pastel

Day one starts with a thorough explanation of all pastel supplies. We then create a sample book, made by practicing several techniques and studying their applications in finished works. We cover some colour theory, and have time to do a landscape study, and a few other individual projects. By the end of the weekend, students will have some basics to get started on their own way in pastel.

Cost of this class $130.00. + hst Supply list sent upon registration.


Thursday September 16 - Thursday December 2, 9 am - noon
Open Studio - Independent learning with Margaret

Open studio is a chance for you to come and work on whatever you like, be in the company of other artists, and get one on one advice and tutoring on composition, technique, drawing and painting from Margaret Ferraro.

Cost of this class is $240.00 + hst


Life Drawing, with Margaret Ferraro

Margaret offers a comprehensive package of life drawing workshops, each studying separate skills, but incrementally building upon each other to cover all aspects to a finished drawing of the human form. In a safe and intimate setting, students are well set up to relax, focus and totally enjoy their life drawing experience. Class size is limited to 7.

Cost of each 3 day workshop is $195.00 + hst + model fee


Monday October 18 - Wednesday October 20, 9 am - 3 pm
Introduction to life drawing, level 1

This class introduces the student to Margarets’ method of drawing the figure. You will learn how to begin every drawing with a consistent approach. With a focus on maintaining life, while practicing proportion, visual analyzation, in depth study of gesture, and basic shape.


Monday November 15 - Wednesday November 17, 9 am - 3 pm
Head, hands, and feet, level 2

Head, hands and feet require special and individual attention because of their complexity. Study of each of these parts will be drawn individually, followed by study of their role within the entire form. Appropriate amount of detail to length of pose, and composition issues will be covered.


Monday December 13 - Wednesday December 15, 9 am - 3 pm
Contour and value, level 3

Longer poses brings the opportunity to draw the figure, in proportion, with a consistent amount of detail throughout the body, followed by study of line, edges, contour, and value through fully shaded drawings. Gesture will be covered but lead quickly to longer poses.

2011

Monday January 10 - Wednesday January 12, 9 am - 3 pm
Portraiture, level 4

Level 2 gives us the opportunity to study the proportions of the head, as it relates to the torso and whole figure. Level 4 brings us to complete detail of the head and upper torso, including facial features, hair, ears. Learn how to position the head very accurately in relation to the body. Some poses will be clothed.


Monday February 14 - Wednesday February 16, 9 am - 3 pm
Putting it all together, level 5

Gesture studies will begin every drawing session. This class is the opportunity to consolidate all skills learnt in levels 1-4, while still under guidance. Longer poses, composition, quality of light, personal expression will be the focus.


Monday November 29 - Friday December 3, 9 am - 4 pm
Introduction to Acrylics

This class will give students experience with tools, mediums and paint supplies that apply to acrylic painting. Found tools, the use of many medium types, various supports such as canvas, board, and papers will be used. Different brush techniques, use of thin and thick paint, and many different approaches will be covered in order for the student to experiment as widely as possible.

Cost of this class includes all art supplies-paint, mediums, supports, and the use of all brushes and other tools. This gives students the chance to try many art materials and decide what s right for them before making many large purchases.
